Maharashtra cabinet today approved levying a 'green tax' on commercial vehicles that are more than seven years old and on non-commercial/private vehicles that are 15 The textile ministry is soon planning to seek the cabinet approval for the National Fibre Policy\, which aims at ending tax disparity between cotton and man-made fibre.
In the draft policy\, the textile ministry has expressed concern over the "\;historical discrimination"\; between man-made fibres (MMF) and cotton in terms of taxation.
"\;We will go to the cabinet as quickly as possible\,&rdquo\; textiles secretary Rita Menon said.

People facing civil cases with regard to housing loans availed by them cannot be asked by banks to pay interest from the date of filing of the case till the date of realisation of the amount at the rate at which the loan was given\, the Madras High Court bench here has said.
Allowing an appeal filed by a couple against Ind bank Housing Ltd\, Justice S Palanivelu said only a concerned court could fix the rate of interest by exercising its discretionary powers under order 34 Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure(CPC).
