UP govt to provide online services to SSIs

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to provide online facilities to small scale industries (SSIs) under Nivesh Mitra scheme, an official said here today.

The web interface of Nivesh Mitra would provide speedy and time bound issuance of various approvals to those desiring to set up small and medium scale industries in the state, the official said.

Divorces on a rise in Kerala as couples marry young

Kerala State Women's Commission (KSWC) may propose raising the minimum age limit of marriage for both men and women before the National Women's Commission (NWC) considering the growing rate of divorces among youngsters. The KSWC will suggest enhancement of the minimum age limit for marriage for women from 18 to 25 and that of men from 21 to 28 or more, KSWC chairperson Justice D Sreevdevi said.

Committee to examine hill transport subsidy bills

Union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Sharad Pawar has ordered constituting a high power committee to examine and work out modalities pertaining to payment of pending Hill Transport Subsidy (HTS) bills to PDS contractors in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said today.

The minister disclosed this when Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu accompanied by PWD Minister Nabam Tuki called on Pawar at New Delhi yesterday.

Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2007 Comes into Force

The Warehousing (Development and Regulation) Act, 2007 has come into force with effect from 25th October, 2010. The Government has also decided to constitute Warehousing Development and Regulatory Authority (WDRA) under the Act with effect from today, 26th October, 2010 with the publication of the relevant notification in the official Gazette.

Govt readies for constitutional amendments to empower women

With women's empowerment and strengthening of country's parliamentary democracy at the grassroot level high on its legislative agenda, the Union government is to have four constitutional amendments in the ongoing Parliament session to achieve the twin objective.

While one seeks to ensure the much-awaited one-third reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, two are for enhancing quota for women from existing 33 per cent to 50 per cent of the total seats of panchayati raj institutions and urban local bodies, according to agenda papers.
