Amid Ray Technologies, a technopark technology business incubated company, operating from Innovation Lab in Kochi, has launched CACTO -- an intelligent water control system, which enables saving water due to leaks and careless handling.

About 30-40 per cent water globally is lost due to leaking taps.

With per capital water availability coming down, it is envisaged the future there will be a capon the amount of water supplied to households and each household will have to play their part in conserving water, the company's CEO Pratheeksha A K told reporters here.

The mechanshim can also support farmers by providing an intelligent irrigation mechanism where it will control water flow as per the requirements and automatically, that can also be controlled easily through any normal mobile phone, Pratheeksha said.

The market potential of the product is huge and every household, apartment and commercial building will be a potential user of Cacto, she said.

Describing the functioning of the product, CTO Nithin Bose said Cacto when fitted to the main water supply of a house, automatically controls the water supply to a household.

Using the mobile phone, the owner can control the system from anywhere thus addressing water wastage.

The product also checks on water leakage, flow detection and water usage against requirement. Cacto can save up to 700 litres of water per year in a house with 12 taps.

The company also plans to cash in on Cacto's other applications such as irrigation. Water lost due to flooding while overflow can be controlled. Farmers can easily control water flow using mobile and by setting the time for watering agricultural land of any kind.

Nearly 85-90 per cent of water is being used for irrigation in the country. Each time one hectare field is irrigated, about 500,000 litres of water are used of which 50 per cent is wasted, he said.

The company also plans to develop higher modules for larger buildings and solar version of Cacto in future, COO Rohit R K said.
