As part of efforts to check the menace of plastic bags, Haryana government has requested neighbouring Delhi and Rajasthan to put a ban on their manufacturing.

Replying to a question in the Haryana assembly, state environment minister Ajay Singh Yadav on Monday said the scope of restrictions on manufacturing, stocking, distribution, sale and usage of plastic carry bags in the state has been enlarged by imposing a complete ban since January 3 this year.

Yadav informed the house that containers made of recycled plastics for storing, carrying, dispensing or packing of food stuffs have been banned since January 2009.

Yadav said that recently the state government had written to Delhi and Rajasthan urging them to put a complete ban on plastic ban manufacturing as their inflow continues into the state.

"As many as 1,452 challans were issued against the violators in January-February this year and four defaulting manufacturing units of plastic carry bags were closed," he said.
