44 IAS officers empanelled as additional secretaries

AP, TN cadres get short shrift
GN Bureau | July 28 2012

As many as 44 IAS officers of 1982 batch have been empanelment as additional secretaries to the government of India. Interestingly Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh got only one IAS officer elevated. Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have taken a major share of six each. [See the full list in the attachment.]

Insiders comment that a drastic slashing down of the empanelment is due to "bad approach and policy of UPA II for the past eight years" with most of
the senior secretaries to the government of India not getting protected but being made scapegoats and landing in Tihar Jail. This scare has set in amongst officials serving in high positions in the sensitive infrastructure ministries.

However, a study undertaken by a policy research outfit indicates that disenchantment and disgruntlement have set in in the All India Service. Therefore none of the officers want to move to the centre.
