Goa director general of police Aditya Arya is in the dock for visiting a tourist spot in Karnataka in his official vehicle, and allegedly keeping the Goa government in dark over the tour.

Goa chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava has initiated an inquiry into the incident of the top cop visiting Gokarna, a famous tourist spot in neighbouring Karnataka, on October 16 in his official vehicle, following an FIR filed against the DGP in Panaji town police station by social activist Aires Rodrigues.

The complainant said the IPS officer's act amounts to cheating, which is punishable under section 420 of the IPC.

Rodrigues has accused Arya of misusing his official position and cheating the state, the allegations being dismissed by the DGP.

Though Arya admitted to having visited Gokarna, he claimed that he did so on a "purpose" and had secured a verbal permission from the state government before travelling in his official car outside the state.

"He (Rodrigues) is a social activist and he can say whatever he likes. The inquiry is already being conducted by chief secretary....Let the enquiry get over," Arya said.

"When DGP moves he moves with the purpose. Why I went there is not a thing of public consumption," the DGP said refusing to elaborate further.

The top cop has already submitted his response to the chief secretary in this matter.

According to sources, the DGP has attributed his visit to "check the source of drugs at Gokarna, which is one of the points from where narcotics is allegedly sourced in Goa".

Rodrigues stated in the FIR that even though the DGP was claiming to obtaining a 'verbal permission' from the chief minister among others to travel to Gokarna, the latter denied giving the same.
