The Gujarat government today appointed IPS officer Amitabh Pathak as Ahmedabad Police Commissioner and transferred over half a dozen officials.

Pathak, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) in State Human Rights Commission, replaces S K Saikia, official sources said.

Saikia has been transfered to the rights commission in place of Pathak.

The government has ordered transfer of seven other police officers and promoted five of them.

P P Pande, ADGP (intelligence) in CID, has been named ADGP (Crime and Railway), they said.

Inspector General K Kumaraswamy, heading state Crime Record Bureau, has been promoted to the post of ADGP (police reforms).

ADGP (Communications) H P Singh has been promoted to the post of DGP, they added.
