DMK MLA suspended for filming House proceedings

PTI | February 01 2012

A DMK MLA was on Wednesday suspended for ten days from the Tamil Nadu Assembly on a recommendation by the Privilege Committee for filming the House proceedings using his mobile phone last year.

The action against first-time MLA T R B Rajaa, son of DMK Parliamentary Party leader T R Baalu, came after the Assembly adopted the recommendations made by the Committee headed by Deputy Speaker P Dhanapal.

Speaker D Jayakumar ruled that Rajaa would not be entitled for his salary or other benefits during the suspension period.

DMK members staged a walkout alleging there was no discussion on the floor of the House and they were not allowed to make their point.

Rajaa was charged with filming the proceedings of the House in violation of rules on September 5 and the Speaker had then ordered confiscation of the mobile phone.

Later, during the debate on the Motion to thank the Governor for his address, DMK member J Anbazhagan was ordered to be evicted by the Speaker as he refused to take his seat despite repeated pleas that his turn was over

The eviction was preceded by an exchange of words between Anbazhagan and the ruling benches.
