The Election Commission today "censured" TRS MP Vijayashanti for allegedly making inflammatory comments in violation of the model code of conduct imposed ahead of the by-election in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.

"Election Commission has taken a serious note of the violation of model code of conduct by her. As a responsible political leader, she should not have made such comments," Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao told reporters here.

Though Vijayashanti denied having made inflammatory comments, the Election Commission after perusing relevant video footage found that the comments made by her amounted to violation of poll code.

Vijayashanti, a noted South Indian actress, asked Telangana supporters to "chop down the foes of Telangana", if they came in the way of formation of separate state. She had said this addressing party workers at the TRS office here.

The CEO said the EC also censured Congress MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy for making similar inflammatory remarks in his native Medak district.

He said police cases booked against both Vijayashanti and Jayaprakash Reddy for their comments would take the natural course.

Both Vijayashanti as well as Jayaprakash Reddy were arrested by police and released on bail over the matter.
