Chidambaram no 2, Shinde at no 5 on cabinet list

Cabinet ministers that went missing from the websites of the PM and the Cabinet Secretariat on July 14 still to make a comeback

GN Bureau | August 6, 2012

Though the order in which names of the Cabinet ministers are list on the government website do not signify any seniority, agriculture minister Sharad Pawar who had jumped to No 2 position after Pranab Mukherjee's exit is back as No 3 with finance minister P Chidambaram becoming No 2 in the new list at <http://india.gov.in/govt/cabinet.php>.

Pawar may be grumbling at Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, once his junior in the Maharashtra government, becoming the leader of House in the Lok Sabha, but he should have satisfaction that Shinde remains below him in the list at No 5.

Defence Minister A K Antony, whose sitting next to the PM in a Cabinet meeting three weeks ago led to Pawar's tantrums of resignation threat, remains below him at No 4. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is placed at No 6. Excluding Pawar, all these top ministers operate from the Central Secretariat, the main seat of the government.

While one government website that showed the new order of the ministers has been updated, it is a mystery that names of the Cabinet ministers that went missing from the websites of the Prime Minister <pmindia.nic.in> and the Cabinet Secretariat <http://cabsec.nic.in/> on July 14 are still to make a comeback.

It is not that the two websites are not updated regularly as new information can be seen uploaded almost every day and yet there is no explanation from the PMO why nobody is putting the new list of the Cabinet ministers on the two main sites of the government.

No more Cabinet reshuffle is in the pipeline in an immediate future in view of the Parliament session from Wednesday and portfolio changes have been already effected and hence these cannot be alibis for not displaying the list on the websites of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet Secretariat and that too when names of all the junior ministers are already on display all past three weeks.
