AAP plans rally against increased power tarrif

Kejriwal to sit on an indefinite fast on March 23 over rising electricity and water prices in Delhi

GN Bureau | March 8, 2013

Aam Admi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal addressed a mass rally in North Delhi’s Timarpur area on Thursday evening against increased power tarrif.

Kejriwal alleged that the Delhi government and industrialists like Ambanis have raised power tariff and LPG prices. He said power consumers have been paying tariff at least twice the rates proposed by former DERC chairperson Berjinder Singh in April 2010.

He added that while government is mute on the vows of the common man, BJP and other opposition parties are also not paying attention to these problems.

The anti-corruption crusader stressed on the need of every man’s support to curb the rise in prices, hike in power tariff and corruption. Kejriwal said his party will hold public rallies across Delhi, to publicise this issue and will urge people to stop paying power bills in full.

Kejriwal will sit on an indefinite fast later this month as part of his ongoing "civil disobedience movement" over rising electricity and water prices in Delhi.
