Rs 1900 cr allocated to UIDAI

First UID to be issued this year

The finance minister in his budget speech announced allocation of Rs 1900 crore to the UID project.

FM said that, “UID will meet its commitment of issuing the first set of UID numbers in the coming year.”

The UID would provide an effective platform for financial inclusion and targeted subsidy payments to the residents.

The unique identification authority of India (UIDAI) was setup last year under the chairmanship of Nandan Nilekani.

It is a 16 fold increase in allocation to UIDAI which was allocated Rs 120 cr last year
