The Allahabad High Court on Friday stayed the arrest of former Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board Prabha Tripathi who has been removed from her post in the aftermath of alleged irregularities in Teachers' Eligibility Test held last year.

A Division Bench comprising Justice D P Singh and Justice V K Mathur passed the order on a petition filed by Tripathi while asking the state government to file its counter-affidavit by March 14, 2012.

Tripathi, who was the Board Secretary when the Teachers' Eligibility Test (TET) was held in November last year, had proceeded on medical leave following the arrest and subsequent suspension of the then Director, Secondary Education, Sanjay Mohan Sharma earlier this month.

Though she has not been named so far in any FIR lodged in connection with the alleged irregularities in TET, Tripathi has moved the court as a "precautionary measure", her lawyer Alok Mishra said.

On Thursday, the new Director, Secondary Education, C P Tiwari announced that Tripathi has been attached to the Directorate of Secondary Education at Lucknow and she has been replaced by Additional Director, Secondary Education, Vasudev Yadav.
