Waste of the ages...
... at the Gazipur landfill
View Image Gallery
At the Gazipur land fill, waste is treasure - for ragpickers. They toil amidst the mountains of perilous, stinking, sometimes toxic waste to earn enough to live from one day to the other. Men, women, children, the old, the young do not mind the stench, the rotting filth or the strays or the scavenging birds. For them, waste is bread. Our lensman Ravi Choudhary captured some of the most compelling sights at the land fill. Click on the display pic for a slide show of full-sized snaps.

What a pity. Rag picking has become an international phenomenon for the down-trodden. Even in the UAE, one could see labourers picking waste materials from the roadside dust bins.
