Delhites march to support BRT, pedestrians

CM will be petitioned to revive the BRT project

The BRT corridor, a project in limbo, found some support from Delhites with about 200 people joining a rally from Pushpa Bhavan to Ambedkar Nagar parking on Tuesday in support of the project and pedestrians' right to the city roads.

Results of an on-spot survey of the rallyists overwhelmingly supported the revival of the BRT project with 87.5 percent of the respondents saying that BRTs would benefit them.

The hour-long rally ended with a resolution by the organisers and those in solidarity to petition the chief minister Sheila Dikshit on four demands:

1. The first phase of the BRT corridor should be completed

2. While constructing the corridor the bus lane should always be kept in the middle

3. Other phases of the proposed BRT corridor should also be completed

4. To stop privatisation of BRT

The rally had been supported by Hazards Centre, DIMTS, Mahila Kalpana Sakti, AIKMM, Chingari, Mahila Samuh, Beghar Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti,  Abhudhaya, Rashtriya Rajdhani Kshetra Tripahiya Chalak Union, Bhalaswa Lok Sakti Manch.

Following the rally, a painting competition was held at Khanpur JJ colony. More than 200 children gathered and painted on the  concept of BRT.
