Ansari to give awards instead of prez

GN Bureau | May 2, 2012

Vice-president M Hamid Ansari has yet not moved into the Rashtrapati Bhawan but on Thursday, he will give away the 59th National Film Awards, which is traditionally given by the president. The function is being organised by the information and broadcasting minister in the Vigyan Bhawan.

Since the ministry has decided to hold the function when president Pratibha Patil is abroad, it fell for Ansari to grace the occasion. This comes at a time when people are already speculating his prospects in the presidential election.

The ministry did not cross-check and fixed the date for the function which cannot be postponed.
