Four union ministers have sought the Congress high command to take them into the organisational set-up in the All India Congress Committee (AICC). Grapevine has it that one union minister has written a letter to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, saying that his continuance in the government will now be difficult since the government has become lame duck.

According to sources, party leaders are disturbed with the Congress’ losing streak and the AICC leaders want a complete overhaul of the party organisation. This, they believe, is necessary to strengthen the state units and also to take on the opposition firmly in the 2014 parliamentary elections. Internal reports in the AICC suggest that going by the current projections, the Congress is unlikely to cross 85 seats in the tally of the next election results.
