IRCTC launches app to facilitate e-ticketing

An app for booking e-tickets has been jointly created by the IRCTC and Windows. The app has been especially designed for a Windows 8 system.

A report in The Economic Times mentions that the app will be in addition to the IRCTC portal, which is currently booking more than four lakh tickets per day, on an average. However the launch of the app will increase the numbers of e-tickets booked in a day.

IRCTC has booked 135 lakh e-tickets at an average of 4.34 lakh each day in August this year against a total of 123 lakh e-tickets at an average of 3.99 lakh daily in the same period last year, registering an increase of about 10 per cent in booking. In an overall average, IRCTC added 3.85 lakh tickets last year.

During the announcement of the current Rail Budget, the former Railway Minister, Pawan Kumar Bansal had commented that the website would be looking to book 7,200 tickets per minute. It would mean handling 1.2 lakh customers at any point of time. . Currently, electronic ticketing account for approximately 48 percent of the tickets sold everyday.
