Surat high on e-governance spirits

Mulls introduction of online approval of construction plans within six months

GN Bureau | November 8, 2012

After getting 54 (highest) marks in e-governance seminar organised by Union Development Ministry and Janaagraha, an NGO, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has set a two-year target to achieve international standards in its e-governance.

Surat is planning to introduce online approval of construction plans within six months.

It has an auto DPR software installed in its system but doesn't have a Geographical Information System (GIS). Thus an applicant seeking approval of his construction plan has to physically come and submit the proposals.

In the next six months, it will be equipped with GIS and then the construction plan applications can be submitted online. Answering queries and final approvals could be sought online.

The town planning department approves at least 400 plans every year.
