No directions to states on price rise: PMO

Applicant had asked if PMO had given instructions to states

GN Bureau | January 27, 2010

New Delhi: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has not issued any directions to the state governments to control the price rise. No information regarding directions issued to central ministries is available with the PMO.

This was revealed by the PMO as a reply to an RTI query filed by Delhi resident Dev Ashish Bhattacharya.

In December last year, Bhattacharya filed an RTI application where he sought directions issued by the PMO to the state governments to control the price rise. He also sought information on any directions PMO had issued issued to central ministries and the Planning Commission.

"I came across lot of reports in the media saying that the prime minister has intervened to tackle price rise and the Centre would take necessary steps. I wanted to know what the PM was doing at his own end. The response from the PMO has revealed that the government is making fool out of us," says Bhattacharya.

The reply dated January 15, 2010, says that the ministries concerned are aware of the need to control prices and the government has various mechanisms to review the price situation.
