Independent MP Kirolal Meena today submitted a memorandum to the Rajasthan chief minister's office stating that members of the Dhanka community should not be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) quota category.

Meena, accompanied by his wife Golma Devi, a minister in the Rajasthan government, led a silent protest march to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's office and submitted the memorandum to principal secretary Srimat Pandey, IGP, Jaipur Range, B L Soni said.

Through the memorandum, the protesters demanded that caste certificates should not be issued to members of the Dhanka community by district collectors as it has "no legal sanctity in the very reservation".

"If the certificate issuance is not stopped forthwith, a major agitation by Meena community would be taken up on the streets," Meena's spokesman Satish said.

According to Meena, the number of members of the Dhanak community was only 164 earlier after which they were authorised to get quotas under the ST category.

However, the number of members of Dhanak community has now risen to about a lakh, therefore they are now not authorised to get the ST quota, Meena has alleged.
