Govt’s indecision on screening ‘Dirty Picture’ PUBLIC REPORTER

madhu agrawal | New Delhi | April 23 2012

It is indeed surprising and indecision on part of the Union government that national award winning film ‘Dirty Picture’ was suddenly stopped from being telecast during prime time by a TV channel despite the film having been given U/A certificate for screening. More confusing aspect is that the lead character Vidya Balan was honoured with national award by the same government which has now allowed screening of the film only in night hours.

Such a rigid and orthodox attitude towards films having objectionable scenes has now been of no relevance with non-adults having free access to much harmful websites freely available through internet. However, it does not mean that films with ‘A’ certification may also be allowed for day-time screening. But liberal attitude towards award-winning films with U/A certification should be there.
