Indian Police Service (IPS) officers should not have a monopoly over the post of the CBI Director and the role of IPS officers on deputation should be reduced, a parliamentary panel has said.

According to a report of parliamentary standing committee on personnel, public grievances, law and justice, the post of Director of the central bureau of investigation should not be limited to officers belonging to the IPS.

The action taken report, which was tabled in Rajya Sabha on Monday, also pointed out the committee was of the firm view that less dependence should be placed on deputation of officials from other states and more promotions should be encouraged within the department.
