Rajdhani and Duronto passengers can now look forward to “hygienic, wholesome and affordable food”. The railways ministry has decided that the catering services in all new Duronto Express trains will be managed by the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) departmentally.

On the experimental basis, supervision of on-board catering services on trains like some Rajdhani and Duronto have been taken over by the railways, an official statement said.

The decision comes after complaints regarding quality of food served in trains. In order to provide hygienic, wholesome and affordable food to the passengers, the catering policy is being reviewed. Plus, measures including conducting special drive on premium trains and base kitchen, full audit by reputed agencies, web enabled complaint management systems and toll free number to lodge complaint, have been taken to strengthen the services.
