Civic authorities have come under attack for failing to control unsafe and unauthorised constructions across the city.
The issue figured prominently at a seminar attended by judges of Delhi High Court as well as senior officials of Delhi Government and National Disaster Management Authority.
The workshop was organised by Delhi Government as part of a two-month-long exercise to sensitise various sections including executive, legislature and judiciary about disaster management.
In the workshop, the judges as well as several officials spoke about the problem unsafe and unauthorised constructions in the city and the danger posed by it to human lives, said an official who attended the seminar.
NDMA Vice Chairman Shashi Dhar Reddy, speaking at a workshop, listed steps being taken by the agency to enhance disaster management mechanism in Delhi and elsewhere and said ensuring structural safety of buildings was necessary to avoid high casualties in the event of an earthquake.
The issue of unauthorised colonies have come to the fore of late after a high-level government inquiry found alleged irregularities in issuance of provisional regularisation certificates to scores of unauthorised colonies.
