Govt takes track- II route to neutralise Anna

Govt not likely to give permission to fast

GN Bureau | November 3, 2011

The government on Wednesday got positive feedback from the track-II contacts established with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

"We have positive signals from those engaged in the track-II diplomacy with Hazare in person to neutralise his anger and we are hopeful that he will be reconciled to withdraw threat of third fast in Delhi from December 9 to 15," a top government source said.

However, if all efforts fail, the government will not give him permission to fast in the capital, particularly when Parliament is in session, the source said, adding that it won't be bothered if the crusader wants to sit on fast anywhere else, be it Uttar Pradesh, Haryana or Punjab.

The interlocutors are talking to Hazare to see wisdom in the pace with which the government is moving for not only the Lokpal Bill for which his group is lobbying but with half a dozen other legislations to declare a war on corruption. They are trying to convince him that he should not get swayed by those in Team Anna trying to use him to create a climate against the Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections early next year.
