The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday approved holding of the Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils and Committees elections in the state.

The nod was given by the state cabinet which met here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The state government had held panchayat polls after 30 years in 2011 and this is another move to strengthen the second and third tiers of grassroots democracy in the state, an official said.
