The CIDCO chairman Pramod Hindurao has said that acquisition of land up to nearly 70 percent has been completed for the proposed international airport near Panvel and the issues pertaining to those displaced by bigger projects are being settled.

Talking to news persons at The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) headquarters here on Wednesday, Hindurao said the priority of the organisation is to solve the problems relating to the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and farmers who are displaced on account of the major projects that are on the anvil and those ongoing in Navi Mumbai region.

With regards to the compensation to be given to the farmers, he said discussions were underway with the representative of the government and CIDCO's S S Sandhu, who is also the Konkan divisional commissioner.

About the status of work related to Panvel airport, Hindurao said the state government and CIDCO wanted to speed up the project and hence would ensure that the issue is amicably settled.

He said the project, once through, will handle nearly 6.10 crore passengers and generate enormous opportunities for trade, ancillary industry and above all employment opportunities.

Hindurao also said CIDCO was willing to go "two steps behind" and consider the demands of the project affected persons.

He also said the metro rail project was also on a "progressive" path.

In reply to a query over reservation in jobs for the kin of PAP, Hindurao said the issue will be sorted out soon.
