Maharashtra, defence forces to enhance coordination

Focus of intelligence sharing, leveraging technology, faster coordinating between military and civil authorities

In response to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, a high-level strategic meeting was convened at chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s official residence, Varsha, on Monday to bolster security measures and enhance coordination between the Maharashtra government and the defence forces.

Chaired by the CM, in the presence of deputy chief ministers, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, the meeting focused on strengthening intelligence sharing, leveraging advanced technology, and establishing a faster and more effective coordination mechanism between civil and military authorities. Emphasizing the critical importance of preparedness, the CM assured full cooperation from the state government to the defence establishment.

Praising the armed forces for their exemplary execution of Operation Sindoor, Fadnavis remarked, “The strength and precision with which the Indian Army conducted the operation is unprecedented. I salute our defence forces.”

He highlighted Mumbai’s significance as India’s financial capital, reiterating that it has been a symbolic target in past attacks. “In the future, we must operate with full strength and vigilance. Timely intelligence exchange and enhanced cybersecurity awareness are essential. Senior officials must collaborate more closely than ever,” he said.

The meeting marks a significant step in tightening internal security frameworks and preparing the state for any emerging challenges.

Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik attended the meeting along with Lt. General Pawan Chaddha and Colonel Sandeep Seal from the Indian Army; Rear Admiral Anil Jaggi and Naval Commander Nitesh Garg from the Indian Navy; and Air Vice Marshal Rajat Mohan from the Indian Air Force, Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, Vikas Kharge, Additional Chief Secretary Ashwini Bhide, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal, Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla, Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti , Additional Municipal Commissioner Vipin Sharma, Additional DGP (Civil Defence) Prabhat Kumar, Additional IG (Intelligence) Shirish Jain, Additional Chief Secretary (Disaster Management) Sonia Sethi, along with District Collectors of Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburbs and other departmental officials were present.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from Reserve Bank of India, JNPT, Mumbai Port Trust, Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), and Home Guards participated in the meeting.
