At the annual chief ministers’ meeting in Delhi on Monday, the opposition-ruled states raised their pitch against the centre’s proposal to set up a national counter-terrorism centre (NCTC), saying that it violated the principle of federalism.

A number of non-congress chief ministers including those of Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat, attacked the centre for encroaching on state’s domain.  Bihar CM Nitish Kumar led the charge, accusing the centre of violation of the structures of federalism. Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalitha said the centre was making repeated attempts at interfering with the powers of the state government. However, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot was against the viewpoint of the CMs from the opposition-ruled states and said that such meeting should not be made into political forums.
