Do you think the state is doing enough for Amarnath pilgrims?

GN Bureau | July 13 2012

Within 17 days of the yatra, a total of 67 Amarnath pilgrims have died. Most deaths occurred due to cardiac arrest. The Shri Amarnath Shrine Board managing the pilgrimage is worried and it has asked authorities to address all health-related issues. The state health department, which is running dozens of medical camps, said in many cases the pilgrims were found to be in possession of fake fitness certificates. According to the Board, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims have registered for the yatra. Many unregistered pilgrims have also made way to the yatra. The Board has opened six on-the-spot registration counters for such pilgrims. While the Board claims it is doing all that is possible to help the pilgrims, their deaths have cast aspersions on the state's efficacy in ensuring safety of the pilgrims?
