As Delhi reels under a severe water crisis for many days now, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday warned that the water shortage would hit nearly 25 lakh residents in the coming days. She put the blame on Haryana which has “arbitrarily and drastically” cut supply to the parched capital.

As residents’ anger spilled in the streets in several colonies of Delhi, the CM’s office said that Dikshit has been “unsuccessfully” trying to speak with Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

While the crisis during peak summers and its cause have remained unchanged in many years now, so have the apathy and callousness of the political leadership of the neighbouring states. More so, when both chief ministers come from the same Congress party.
