Following the arrest of three Rajasthan Royals cricketers on charges of spot-fixing, the Shiv Sena has sought a ban on T20 cricket and IPL as a tournament. The IPL is a den of “gamblers” and the cricketers playing in the league are not playing in the spirit of the game, but batting and bowling for sponsors and big business houses, the party says.

According to Sena MP Sanjay Raut, the IPL, “controlled by bookies with underworld links… is an international racket and must be immediately disbanded”. The party has also pointed the fingers at MPs from the ruling Congress-NCP combo in Maharashtra, alleging that NCP chief Sharad Pawar and Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rajiv Shukla cannot shrug off their “responsibility” since they have crucial responsibilities in Indian cricket administration.

While Shiv Sena’s appeal is sure to touch an emotional chord among many, do you agree the IPL should be banned?
