Uttar Pradesh is targetting a paperless system to be in place in the state by the end of 2014 through the implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System.

The work on the first phase of the pilot project of the CCTNS is already underway in Lucknow, Ghazipur and Moradabad.

The second phase would cover police stations in 35 districts, including Allahabad and Banda. The remaining police stations and departments like the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and CID would be covered under third and fourth phase respectively. Once all the four phases are completed, police stations across the state will have the facility to share information, data, etc., online.

The Union government has sanctioned funds amounting to Rs 113.78 crore for the implementation of CCTNS project in the first phase in the state.
