All central ministries and depts to adopt e-office by end of 12th Plan

29 central ministries, departments to be covered under e-Office by 2012-22013

In a move that would speed up the daily routine business of the public sector and enhance transparency, the government is planning to deploy e-office suit in 12 central ministries during this financial year and in 29 central ministries by 2012-2013. 

“By the end of the 12th Five Year Plan, all the central ministries and departments are proposed to be covered under the e-office scheme,” R C Misra, secretary, department of administrative reforms and public grievances (DAR&PG), government of India said on Friday during a workshop on e-Office for nodal officers and project teams of implementing ministries and departments in the Capital.

Inaugurating the workshop, V Narayanasamy, minister of state, ministry of personnel, public grievances and pensions and the prime minister office (PMO), “e-government is the way out to ensure effective and faster public service delivery system and the government is committed to this cause.” The government is planning to bring electronic delivery of services bill to further facilitate and smooth transition towards e-office at all levels, the minister said.  

He said that central ministries and departments should be pioneer in implementing e-office project and put extra effort to make it a reality at the earliest.  With a view of ensure that implementation of e-office is not unduly delayed, the minister suggested to put a timeframe in place. 

e-office is a mission mode project (MMP) under the national e-governance plan  (NeGP) which has been assigned to DAR&PG. The project will facilitate electronic movement of files and automate modules of office management like budget management, personnel information system, knowledge management, leave management, tour management and messaging management, among others.
