Delhi govt to digitize archives post 1857
Department of archives of national capital territory of Delhi on Tuesday signed an agreement with national institute of smart government (NISG), to digitize almost 10 core documents collecting dust in the Capital archives. Most of these archival documents will be made available to the citizens through department’s web portal.
“Gazettes, reports, plans, manuscripts and maps of the post 1857 period will not only be scanned in micro films but will also be made into a database, accessible through department’s website, with the use of a document management system (DMS),” an NISG official said. However, the majority of the archives that will be digitized will be of post 1911, the year when Delhi was made the national capital, the official stated.
NISG, the Hyderabad based non-profit agency, will prepare request for proposal (RFP) and select an agency for the digitisation and deployment of DMS in next seven to eight months. “The project will be implemented in phases. In phase one, we will digitize one crore documents,” the official said.
Records as old as trial of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the last Mughal emperor and the more recent like procession of Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first president of India, in year 1963 will be available to the researchers and scholars.
