Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, the government is going to upload all the schools including lower primary, higher primary and high schools on Google Earth. This will help alumni of a particular school who probably stays in the US or the UK will be able to see his school with just a click.

The SSA district commissioner Shivaprakash told Deccan Herald that under SSA in Dakshina Kannada, the authorities concerned will use Geographic Information System (GIS) to map 1,924 schools.

A vital inclusion in the project would be of district information system of schools education (DISE) database and the integrated database of schools. It would also collect names and addresses of each government-aided and unaided school along with visiting the schools and capturing the geographical coordinates using GPS in a prescribed format.

The SSA commissioner says that even the schools which were temporarily closed down were included while taking the photographs.
