As part of police reforms, Andhra Pradesh government has decided to set up Greater Hyderabad Police Commissionerate for the state capital by merging the existing Hyderabad and Cyberabad police commissionerates.

State DGP V Dinesh Reddy made this announcement during a press conference today.

He said the new Greater Hyderabad Police Commissionerate would be headed by the chief commissioner of the rank of Additional DGP. The merger of both the commissionerates would take place soon, he said.

At present, Hyderabad Police Commissionerate looks after the law and order in the state capital while various areas on the city outskirts fall under Cyberabad police commissionerate causing inconvenience to general public.

The police chief said there would be four police commissioners under the proposed Greater Hyderabad Police Commissionerate and under each police commissioner there would be 20-25 police stations.

The proposed zones under the new commissionerate would be Hyderabad, Hyderabad South, Secunderabad and Cyberabad and each zone would be headed by a police commissioner, he said.

To a query the DGP said all the four police commissioners will be entrusted with the same powers as of the present commissioners of Hyderabad and Cyberabad.

The Chief Commissioner would coordinate with other commissioners for efficient and better policing.

The DGP said, a committee, comprising five top police officers, including Hyderabad city police commissioner A K Khan and Cyberabad commissioner Dwaraka Tirumala Rao would study and submit a report in next three weeks.
