To curb the prevailing situation of the subsidized fertilizer in the state, the Karnataka government is likely to launch mobile fertilizer monitoring system in January 2012 to the trace the movement from manufacturer to the retailer. For the same purpose, Mangalore chemicals and fertilisers (MCF) limited has been appointed as the nodal agency for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The system is likely to help in direct transfer of subsidies to the farmers through dealers from whom fertiliser was purchased in the later phase.
Cooperatives can register by producing details like permanent account number (PAN), agency name, proprietors’ name, godown details, shop licence details, mobile number, address and nature of dealership to the nodal agency. The fertilisers will be given only to those dealers who have registered with the MCF.

The national informatics centre (NIC) and the department of information and technology have the mandate to provide information regarding the movement of the fertiliser supply.  For example, if one seeks to trace a particular subsidy grant to a farmer, information regarding the same will be available on a real-time basis on the NIC portal.
