Information technology should be used extensively for expediting cases under the Right to Information Act, Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said here today.

Information technology should be used for RTI to make it simple for public and the State Government to obtain and share information effectively, Chavan said, at a meeting held at Mantralaya with Information Commissioner Suresh Joshi.

Hearings under RTI should be conducted via video conferencing to save time and money of citizens, Chavan said, adding the Government would extend help in this regard.

Since implementation of RTI Act in 2006, 13 lakh applications have been received in the state, Joshi said.

Chavan also asked officials to expedite the procedure for filling up posts of divisional commissioners.
