'Mobile Governance' could help solve people's problems faster through better application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday.

"The mobile phone is now being used by the common man with ease and Gujarat is first to spread its use in governance," he said while inaugurating a three-day conference, e-INDIA, in Gandhinagar.

The new concept of 'Mobile Governance' would be on the lines of 'e-Governance' and 'Good Governance', he added.

Gujarat has made long strides in the field of IT during the last decade, especially in governance. The alphabet 'e' in e-Governance represents easy, economic and effective governance, Modi said.

The Chief Minister listed various e-governance initiatives of his Government which include e-Dhara programme for computerisation of land records and broadband connectivity in all villages of the state.

Citizens' Charter providing information about 100 public services at 300 Janseva Kendras (at taluka levels) and a project (SWAGAT) to redress online grievances of people were some of the other initiatives Modi talked about.

He said though India missed the gains of industrial revolution because of the British rule, it quickly embraced information technology.

The conference, considered to be the country's largest event of its kind, is being attended by 400 delegates and 150 exhibitors.
