Website to have interactive route map, automatic fare calculator and more

Want information about Metro stations, train timings and what DMRC has to offer you during the Commonwealth Games?

Now, get these at the click of a mouse from tomorrow with the Delhi Metro set to launch its new official website, entirely different from the existing one.

The new website www.delhimetrorail.com is being hosted in the government's NIC server and its special feature is interactivity.

With thousands of foreign tourists expected to throng the national capital next month for the Games, DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan will tomorrow launch the website which has a special section containing details about the Games, metro stations and other information about the transport system.

The new website will serve as a single-stop shop for details regarding the Delhi Metro.

"The website will have an interactive route map, automatic fare calculator and details of tourist attractions along the Metro corridor," a Delhi Metro spokesperson told PTI.

The spokesperson said there will be a special section titled 'Commonwealth Games 2010' to provide details about the event, its association with Metro, connectivity and other information.

Though the idea to re-design the website was on the cards for a long time, DMRC decided to relaunch it during the Commonwealth Games as Metro anticipates many people will use the new age transport systems to reach the sport venues to watch the games.

To make the website attractive and give it an elegant look, Delhi Metro officials studied the sites of other leading sub-way systems in the country like Hong Kong, Singapore and London.

"We took some lessons from there. The main idea was to provide all details to commuters and tourists about the network at the click of a mouse," the spokesperson added.

The Metro will also bring out a special Commonwealth Games booklet to provide all the necessary information to the commuters during the games.

"The comprehensive booklet will not only carry information about the various corridors and stations, but will also have details about various tourist attractions in the city along with their Metro connectivity," the spokesperson said.
