Pick-up in hiring activity in June, says Naukri.com

Compared with June last year, the index climbed as much as 19 per cent

Hiring activity picked up significantly last month, with increased employment opportunities in the IT and ITeS sectors, says Naukri.com. Indicating better labour market conditions, Naukri.com's Job Speak Index rose 4 per cent in June, compared to May.

Compared with June last year, the index climbed as much as 19 per cent. The index is an indicator of monthly demand for jobs online.

According to leading job portal Naukri.com, both the IT and ITES sectors' indices climbed 12 per cent last month in comparison to May. "Key functional areas like software services and sales registered an upward movement in hiring activity in June," it said in a statement.

Further, recruitment activity improved in the pharma, biotech and insurance sectors. "The talent market is driven by demand and supply," Info Edge India Managing Director and CEO Hitesh Oberoi said.

"... Economic slowdown may not necessarily affect the pace of hiring," he added. Info Edge owns Naukri.com. However, the telecom sector reported a 17 per cent drop in hiring activities in June, the maximum dip for the segment in the last one year.

In terms of cities, recruitment activities were up in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, among others. "... The job index for Kolkata and Delhi dipped by 6 per cent and 4 per cent, respectively, in June over May," the statement said.
