Portal in offing for missing children

Women and child development (WCD) ministry initiates Track Child portal

PTI | September 18, 2012

A portal for tracking missing children, called ‘Track Child’ is being developed by the women and child development (WCD) ministry. This will serve as a central database for all the missing children in the country.
According to WCD secretary, Prem Narain the portal will help to coordinate activities of child homes, police departments and state governments across the country.
"As soon as a boy-girl is enlisted in a home, or whenever a (missing) FIR is registered in a police station, the details will be put on the portal," Narain said.
Narain said that his ministry will coordinate with police heads, social welfare departments of various states and other agencies to create this coordinating mechanism.
According to Narain, the mechanism is partially functional and has helped track around 1400 children; the portal though, is yet to be launched.
Narain also said WCD was also considering a proposal to create a National Institute of Women Affairs, which would serve as a think-tank for matters related to women.
