As part of expediting various services,the District administration here has launched a project that would provide complete details about local people just by a mere click of the 'mouse'.

The scheme, launched under the Collector's 'innovative fund', would help officials provide various services to the people quickly, officials said.
"Once the data base is available there would be no red tape..or corruption", they said.

District Collector M.Balaji said the database would give complete profile, including socio-economic details, income, community, disability (if any),educational qualification and properties owned by the people.

If the data is available then there would no need for any middle man and time could be saved to finetune details about those who were seeking assistance under scheme.

"We can also quickly decide on the application of a person for some welfare scheme," he said.

In the first phase, Aruppukottai Panchayat Union has been selected to collect information about individuals' bio-data. It would provide details on 35 subjects.

Hundreds of college students were collecting the details by conducting door-to-door survey. The digital questionnaire is uplaoded in the mobile phones of students and details entered in the phones are transferred to computer. The Weekly "Sunday survey" has covered over 32 village panchayats.

The data base would have unique identity number, ration card number and voter identity card number, so that duplication of individual/family is avoided when people migrate from one place to another, officials added.
