The West Bengal government would soon conduct a special survey and mapping of the disabled population in the state to ensure the benefits of various schemes reach the beneficiaries.

Announcing this here today, state's Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Minister Sabitri Mitra sought cooperation of all persons with disabilities, parents of the persons with disabilities and NGOs with the survey workers.

"This survey will be of immense help in delivering various services and benefits of different government schemes to the poorest of the poor of the remote areas apart from framing up various macro and micro level planning," she said.

After completion of the survey, a database would be created and uploaded on the website of the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department and the Department of Psychology of Calcutta University, the minister said.

The programme would begin with Bankura district from September 13.
