GN Bureau | September 12, 2013

Tata Consultancy Services has joined hands with Goa, to maintain a link between all the police stations in the state and provide real-time crime and criminal information in Goa.

TCS will be responsible for implementing the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), reported The Hindu Business Line. The company will be part of an eGovernance plan that will electronically link 14,000 police stations across the country.

TCS has confirmed that it has received the letter of intent. A formal contract between the company and Goa Police will be signed in the coming weeks.

The software firm will facilitate the police in maintaining a digital database on crime and criminals. The system will cover all the 27 police stations in Goa, and can be accessed by the citizens for filing complaints and tracking any applications filed by them.

By making the state police force more effective, the software will be aiming at reducing the crime rate in the State. The request for proposal (RFP) by the department, states that an executive management system will have to be deployed that will administer all applications, infrastructure and network related components related to the project. Further one trained person per police station will have to be provided. The trained staff will assist the police for six months, advising them on the correct use of the CCTNS system.

The software firm has already been awarded the contract for implementing the CCTNS project in states like Gujarat, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Gujarat, the first state to implement the project, will make CCTNS live in a couple of weeks.

The first phase of the Goa project will be completed by October, followed by the second round of rollout by March 2014.
