BJYM protests entry tax for pilgrims' buses

The J&K govt will impose an entry tax on inter-state buses carrying Amarnath and Vaishnodevi pilgrims

Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) activists today held demonstration over Jammu and Kashmir government's decision to impose entry tax on inter- state buses carrying pilgrims to Amarnath and Vaishnodevi shrines.

About eighty BJYM activists led by district president Munish Khajuria blocked the road at Maheshpura locality in the city and held protest demonstration for about 40 minutes, officials said here.

Raising slogans against the chief minister and others, the activists also burnt an effigy of the government during the demonstration.

The BJYM would continue its agitation till the taxes on inter-state buses carrying Hindu pilgrims is withdrawn, Khajuria said.

The government recently had issued a notification to charge entry taxes on inter-state buses to Mata Vaishnodevi and Amarnath Shrine.

As per the notification, an amount of Rs 2,000 will be charged for three days for Mata Vaishnovdevi buses and after three days Rs 2,000 per day would be charged from them.In case of Amarnath buses, Rs 2,000 will be charged for seven days and after seven days, Rs 200 per day extra would be charged from them.
