Rajkot city Congress unit has decided to protest Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC)'s decision to impose water cut from July 12.

RMC officials have slapped water cut from every third day from July 12 as the main reservoirs in the city are almost empty.

Congress city unit president Jasvantsinh Bhatti, working president Indranil Rajyaguru and Opposition leader in RMC Narendrasinh Jadeja in a joint statement said the RMC has done nothing during the year to bring water from Narmada.

Various agitational programmes like holding rally and *gherao" to RMC Mayor and other officials have been planned.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sandhya Vyas said the RMC is trying to bring water from Mahi-Pariej to keep water distribution regularly.

She said RMC is concerned about drinking water crisis and accused Congress of politicising the issue.

It is fact that the dams in Rajkot do not have sufficient water and the opposition should co-operate the ruling party, she said.

The city has received 250 mm rainfall this monsoon and the main dams are still empty. The RMC has said that the water cut would be withdrawn if the dams get sufficient water.
