BSP to hold protest on Jul 6 in UP

The ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh today announced to hold a statewide agitation on July 6 against UPA-led government at the Centre to protest hike in prices of petroleum products.

"The decision was taken at a meeting held by Chief Minister Mayawati... Party workers would stage day-long dharna and demonstration in all the 71 districts of the state," a BSP spokesman said here.

"The decision taken by the Centre to rise prices of petroleum products has once again proved that the Congress has nothing to do with the problems of the common people. This step has been taken with an intention of benefiting some capitalists who are close with the political parties associated with the government," Mayawati said.

In a politically sensitive move, the government on June 25 hiked prices of petrol by Rs 3.50 a litre and diesel by Rs 2 a litre, raised LPG by Rs 35 a cylinder and the poor man's cooking fuel kerosene by Rs 3 a litre.

NDA allies to hold 'Bharat Bandh' against price rise in July

NDA allies would hold a massive "Bharat Bandh" in the first week of July in protest against fuel price hike.

"Besides all NDA partners, SP, PMK, JD(S), INLD, TDP and Left parties have also agreed to support the nationwide shutdown in the first week of July," JD(U) president and convenor of NDA partners Sharad Yadav told a press conference here, adding that the date would be announced later this week.

"The UPA government's routine hike of petroleum products is giving hard time to common man to survive in price war of essential commodities and fuel," Yadav said.

"Just to increase GDP, the UPA government boosted automobile industry that led to hike of petrol, diesel and kerosene prices," he said.

SP-Left to launch nationwide protest on Jul 5

SP and left parties will launch a joint nationwide strike on July 5 to protest against hike in prices of petroleum products.

"SP and left parties will jointly participate in the nationwide strike on July 5 against UPA government's decision to raise the prices of petroleum products," SP spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary said here today.

"People are being forced to sleep without food, farmers are committing suicide, but the Centre is least concerned with their problems...," he said.

Chaudhary said in the last few years while petrol and diesel prices rose by 20 per cent and 32 per cent respectively, the prices of essential commodities increased by 150 per cent.
